Lifestyle family photography tips for success!
Wear comfortable clothes
Comfort has two different meanings. When I say be comfortable I’m not talking about wearing your lounge pants. I’m more so saying it’s important to be YOURSELF! When you wear outfits that don’t resemble your everyday clothing selection, then you will feel slightly off and out of place. So this doesn’t mean ditch the high heels… it just means that if you haven’t worn high heels in a decade… no need to start now. But if you love your stilettos and they are a common outfit choice… then bring it on!
Embrace the chaos
I love a good posed, all eyes on the camera shot just as much as the next guy but sometimes the best shots come from unpredictable moments. Especially families with little ones… trying to much to control the unpredictable moods can backfire. My approach is to let go of the reins a bit and treat the session like a fun day at the park where they can explore and be free spirited :)
Keep the focus on each other
Stay present with your partner and kids. Lifestyle family photography is all about capturing interactions and connection. So feel free to improvise and be affectionate and playful with your family during the shoot. The outcome will show the genuine side of your family bond. I will also be there to guide you though it all.
No need to over prepare
Sometimes less is more. When you overthink and over prepare for all the details leading up to the session it can feel overwhelming before we even start. Trust me when I say that simple is best! Both a simple mindset and outfit selection will do wonders for the photos. Leave the strollers and oversized diaper bags in the car. Carry your little ones so we can shoot as we walk around. Brining some light snacks or drinks to keep the little ones happy is perfectly fine and encouraged.
So just relax, have fun and enjoy this outing with your family. I will offer up as much instruction and guidance as needed as we go!
